Business Broadband & Telecoms

Reliable connectivity keeps a modern business running — card machines, POS systems, bookings, cloud software and phone calls all depend on it. What is available, and how fast, depends on your exact address.

Meridian helps UK businesses explore broadband, connectivity and business phone options from telecoms providers, and choose a service that fits how the business actually works.

How can I find business broadband in the UK?

Check what is available at your exact address, decide what you need (speed, number of users, phone lines, backup for card payments), then compare providers on service levels, contract length, installation time and total cost. The UK's analogue phone network closes on 31 January 2027, so check any equipment that still uses traditional lines.

Who it’s for

  • Shops and hospitality venues running card machines and POS
  • Cafés, pubs and hotels offering guest Wi-Fi
  • Offices relying on cloud software and video calls
  • Businesses with several sites
  • Businesses moving into new premises

What we help you with

Connectivity matched to your premises

Options can range from fibre broadband to full fibre (FTTP) and dedicated leased lines, depending on what is available at your address.

Prepare for the digital phone switch

The UK's analogue telephone network is being replaced with digital services. VoIP and cloud phone systems keep your business connected.

Keep payments online

Backup options, such as mobile data failover, can help keep card machines and POS running if your main line goes down.

Understand the service levels

Business services can differ in support hours, fault response and repair commitments. We help you compare what each provider offers.

How it works

  1. 1

    Tell us what you need

Your premises address, number of users, what runs on the connection and your current contract end date.

  2. 2

    We help you compare

We review options from the providers we work with, explain the differences in plain English, and tell you which provider you would contract with.

  3. 3

    Check availability and terms

The provider confirms availability at your address, installation lead times, contract length and charges.

  4. 4

    Installation

The provider installs and supports the service under its contract with you.

Before you start

  • Your premises address and postcode, as availability varies street by street
  • Your current contract end date and any early termination charges
  • How many people and devices use the connection, and whether you need static IP addresses
  • Whether alarms, lifts, card machines or other equipment use traditional phone lines and will need checking for digital compatibility
  • Leased lines and some full fibre services can have longer installation lead times

Our role and your provider

Broadband and telecoms services are provided by third-party telecoms providers, which are responsible for the service, installation and support. Meridian is not a network operator.

Before you agree, we will tell you whether we are introducing you to a provider or supplying a service in our own name, and who you will be contracting with.

Business Broadband & Telecoms: frequently asked questions

What broadband speed can my business get?

It depends on the infrastructure at your exact address. Providers check availability for your premises before confirming the services and speeds they can offer.

What is a leased line?

A leased line is a dedicated, uncontended connection for your business, usually with matching upload and download speeds and strong service commitments. It typically costs more and takes longer to install than standard broadband.

What is VoIP, and do I need it?

VoIP carries phone calls over your internet connection. As the UK replaces its analogue phone network with digital services, many businesses are moving to VoIP or cloud phone systems.

Can I keep my business phone number?

In most cases, numbers can be transferred (ported) to a new provider. The provider will confirm before you switch.

What happens if my broadband goes down?

Fault handling depends on your provider's service terms. Backup options such as mobile data failover can keep essential services, like card payments, running.

Who can help my business compare broadband and telecoms providers?

You can compare providers directly or use an intermediary. Meridian Merchant & Energy Solutions Ltd helps UK businesses explore broadband, connectivity and business phone options from the telecoms providers it works with. It is not a network operator; the provider you choose supplies and supports the service.

When is the UK analogue phone switch-off?

Openreach plans to close the analogue telephone network (PSTN) on 31 January 2027. Businesses using traditional phone lines, or equipment that relies on them such as some alarms, lift lines and older card machines, should check compatibility and move to digital services before then.
